What are signs I need to change my engine’s spark plugs?

Your car may display one or more signs that indicate you need to replace spark plugs in your engine.

  1. Trouble starting. This could happen due to a damaged or worn spark plug wire or spark plug misfiring.
  2. Worse fuel mileage. Have you been filling up your gas tank more often? Poor fuel mileage could be due to a misfiring spark plug or two. Misfiring spark plugs may reduce your car’s fuel efficiency by as much as 30 percent.
  3. Rough idling. Your car’s engine normally idles quietly and without any shaking. You might hear your engine making rattling, knocking, or pinging noises due to wayward vibrations.
  4. Check engine light comes on. Have your chosen technician diagnose the problem.
  5. Slow acceleration. If your car doesn’t respond as it normally does when you accelerate, a problem in the combustion chamber may be the culprit.

Ignition Coil

What are ignition coils

Torch ignition coil

The essential function of the ignition coil is to delivery of high voltage, which jumps between the center and ground electrode of the spark plug within a cylinder, generating the ignition spark.

Ignition coil performance

The key features and benefits of TORCH Ignition Coils include but are limited to:

  • Precise engineering for correct seating
  • Excellent pulse strength durability
  • Exceptional short-circuit and moisture resistance
  • Superior thermal loads and vibration resilience
  • Optimal dimensioning of cooling surfaces for the heat dissipation and temperature stability
  • Extensive range of Australian vehicle applications

RIDIUM VS. PLATINUM SPARK PLUG: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Spark plugs allow the combustion process to take place inside the vehicle, and an engine will give more power if there is better combustion. This will depend on the spark that the spark plug electrodes have, therefore, the different options that exist on the market must be taken into account. Regularly, in the market, we find three basic materials that are platinum, iridium and copper.

However, there are some differences when it comes to sparking plugs. Some are more efficient and work better than others. Below you will find out what is the difference between iridium spark plugs and platinum.

LIFESPAN

Another major difference between iridium and platinum spark plug is the lifespan. The lifecycle of iridium spark plugs is longer than the platinum ones. These spark plugs can complete 8,000 km without an issue.

On the other hand, platinum spark plugs are a little better than copper spark plugs and can run about 4,000 km. This is one of the differences between iridium and platinum spark plugs.

PERFORMANCE

When it comes to performance, iridium performs better than other spark plugs. The spark plugs that are made of other metals can cause a shaky engine; whereas, iridium spark plugs can make the ignition smoother. If you follow the proper car maintenance checklist , the iridium spark plugs can perform better for your car.

In comparison to Iridium plugs, platinum spark plugs are not very reliable. Platinum plugs can cause a jerky engine start which ultimately affects the performance of the car.

Also, you must know the life expectancy of car parts to run the vehicle smoothly.

MELTING POINT

The melting point of Iridium is higher than platinum; with values around 2400 °C and 1760°C respectively. The higher melting point means that iridium caps can be hotter than platinum caps. While hotplugging is not always desirable, it is best to drive it around town.

VOLTAGE

Another interesting advantage that iridium plugs offer is that they require less voltage for the spark to jump, and these tend to work quite well on cold days.

What is Spark Plugs ?

What does a spark plug do?
The spark is generated by the discharge phenomenon between the electrodes, and the gasoline engine generates power by timely combustion of the fuel and the mixed gas, but the gasoline as the fuel is difficult to self-ignite even in a high temperature environment, and it is necessary to use a”fire”to ignite in order to make it burn in time. The spark ignition is the role of”spark plug”. The overall performance of the engine depends on whether the spark plug flashes or not. We tend to use the engine as the”heart of the car”, but we can better compare the spark plug to the heart of a gasoline engine or part of a diesel engine.

Spark plug performance

Heat resistance: can adapt to extremely heat.extremely cold

The temperature inside the spark plug is 2000℃when the mixed gas is burned, and the low temperature gas is cooled during the suction stroke, so that the rapid cooling of the 4-stroke engine turns the two revolutions of the engine into one revolution.

As well as this heat resistance, it is also required to have a heat release property that does not reach the starting point of surface ignition.

Mechanical strength: can adapt to intense pressure changes

The pressure can reach less than 1 during suction stroke, and can reach 45 or more during the explosion. The only mechanical strength that can accommodate this intense pressure change.

Insulator: keep the insulator of the high Voltage

Air tightness: maintain air tightness in a harsh environment

Under the sudden temperature change and pressure change,it is required to maintain the air tightness between the mechanical box and the insulator.

Wear resistance: electrode consumption

In the harsh environment, and such wear resistance is required.
